This sculpture represents my diversification from figurative to conceptual and abstract sculptural themes. The clients wanted a sculpture for their entranceway that was unique, elegant, 3 dimensional and made from Corten Steel. Coordination with engineers, C.A.D. designers and crane operators is critical.
The first stage was to establish a budget and come up with a design. Once the shape and size was determined, I had a sample image (albeit a primitive one) to show the client. Then it was off to the quarry to find the perfect base for the sculpture.
Once all the details were taken care of, contracts were signed and laser cutting was out and back to the studio, fabrication and detailing could begin.
During the complicated installation stage, great care was taken to protect plants, grass and underground watering systems.
Plastic was placed under the stone to manage the rust stains that occur during the curing stage of the Corten Steel conditioning.
Over the years, the clients were thrilled with the changes in colour, as well as the overall impact sculpture has on the presentation and stature of their Ski Chalet.
