This lovely client, a Dental Surgeon, Prof. at U of T, musician, widow and mother... wanted a wall sculpture to represent her past, present and future life.
During the Initial meeting at my studio we chatted about her vision. Then slowly over the next 6 months, we had back-and-forth discussions to develop the idea of a vine growing with moments of her life represented along the way: A book, with vines extending, to represent her education and where it led; leaves and flowers for her children and their families: two rings to represent her marriage: a treble clef to celebrate music as the vines continue grow upward and outward to the future...
Over time she was able to define the story she wanted to tell. She found images that represented the important events and experiences in her life. Together, we refined the ideas until I was able to recreate a life-size drawing of a sketch she provided of her vision.
Working from my studio in Clarksburg, I drew on 35 years of blacksmithing experience to forge her fluid and organic vision from cold, hard steel.
